Diverse has provided opportunities for young people to get together and share their culture and experiences through the arts.
Originally intended as a small project, it was so popular we had to expand to include 85 young people and work with a variety of different trainers and facilitators from across the arts.
The project comprised two main strands. Firstly young people interviewed older black and minority ethnic (BME) residents from across the county asking them about their experiences and life across two cultures. The interviews were filmed and a high quality DVD has been produced which will be used around schools to aid discussions on the diverse and different communities across Derbyshire.
The second part involved a number of young people taking part in a range of artistic workshops at Chesterfield Donut Creative Arts Studio. Young people from across Derbyshire came together to take part in workshops in film, fashion, music technology, drama, dance, graffiti art and animation. The workshops culminated in a showcase event on 13 and 14 October 2010.
